Oct. 11: Texans Celebrate World Hospice And Palliative Care Day Celebration in Austin

Austin joins cities around the globe in a unified day of action to celebrate quality care at the end of life, reports Quality of Life Care, one of the 2008 co-event coordinators. Visit www.worldday-austin.org for more details.

The City of Austin has proclaimed Saturday, October 11, to be World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD), to raise awareness and understanding of the needs - medical, social, practical and spiritual - of people living with terminal diagnosis and their families.

The second Austin observance of the annual worldwide celebration will be held on the beautiful shores of Town Lake at the Stevie Ray Vaughn memorial (1st street bridge & Riverside) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Sunset Sonata will feature internationally known classical guitarist Tony Morris beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone who has been affected by life-threatening illness, either in a personal or professional way is encouraged to attend. The celebration will include a sharing of ideas and perspectives on illness, dying, dignity and hope:

. 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: informal discussions and education
. 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. performance: Tony Morris
. 8:00 p.m. - ? Music Round Robin/Jam, any instrument/any style

Bring a blanket and join in the celebration. The evening promises to be a time to relax, celebrate and enjoy.
