Layton Slams Harper's Inaction on Lost Forestry Jobs

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2008) - New Democrat Leader Jack Layton slammed Prime Minister Harper today for doing nothing while hundreds of thousands of manufacturing and forestry jobs have disappeared.

Expressing concern about the US banking and credit crisis, Layton said "unlike Stephen Harper, whose top priority is protecting corporate profits, I'll work to protect homes, savings, and pensions from the unfolding financial crisis."

The New Democrat Leader pointed out that Liberal leader Stephane Dion supported Mr. Harper's Conservatives on 43 occasions in the last Parliament.

"So for the past 25 months we've had an Opposition leader who won't oppose, and a Prime Minister who cannot lead" said Layton.

Layton called on supporters of the Liberal, Green, and old Progressive Conservative parties to unite behind his party in this election. "The only way to get rid of Stephen Harper is to come together, and support the New Democrats."
