The Tenth "Veterans History Day" Open House Set for Raleigh Elks Lodge
The tenth scheduled Veterans History Day will be held Saturday, October 4th, 2008 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Raleigh Elks Lodge #735. Located at 5538 Lead Mine Road, the monthly event is sponsored in cooperation with the National Veterans History Archival Institute (NVHAI) which is located in the Congressional Library of Congress. A total of 204 local Veterans have already successfully recorded the histories of their military service and experience during past Open Houses at the Lodge, according to Dave Milidonis, founder.
Interviews are open to all veterans from all the wars, including the Merchant Marines, regardless of their war or peace-time experience. The Elks and the NVHAI serve as collecting partners to recognize our veterans valor and sacrifices in keeping our Nation free. Their recorded DVDs are delivered to their families at no cost. Serving as collecting partners, the Elks and the NVHAI, forward the DVDs to the Congressional Library of Congress for final and permanent retention.
Veterans from all the wars, including the Merchant Marines, are invited to participate regardless of their war or peace-time experience. Relatives and children are also welcome
to observe the interview sessions, which are conducted within the Lodge by dedicated and trained Elk Veteran interviewers. Of special interest to the Congressional Library of Congress are complementary materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and home movies of the veteran's experiences.
Again, open interviews will be held between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on Saturday,
October 4th, 2008 or to sign up for a specific interview timeslot, please email your request to Dmilidonis@aol.com or call (919)449-5440.
