Ruckus Wireless Smart Wi-Fi Chosen for Esquire Magazine's 'Esquire House Hollywood Hills'
Ruckus High-Performance, Extended Range Smart WLAN Selected to Blanket 7,400-Square-Foot Property With Reliable Wi-Fi

Ruckus Wireless(TM) today announced that its
ZoneFlex Smart Wireless LAN (WLAN) was chosen by Esquire magazine to
provide reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout its 7,400-square-foot "Esquire
House Hollywood Hills."
The Ruckus Wireless Smart Wi-Fi system is being used by Esquire for its
highly successful celebrity/charity event marketing franchise commonly
referred to as "the ultimate bachelor pad," where a series of exclusive
celebrity/charity events will take place from September through November,
attended by high-profile philanthropic donors, celebrities, Esquire clients
and other VIPs.
The opening night event on Thursday, September 25, will be a benefit for
"Rock the Vote" hosted by Christina Aguilera.
"Now in our sixth year, our 'Signature Space' program has greater
requirements for consistent, reliable Wi-Fi access than ever before," said
Stephen Jacoby, Esquire's associate publisher of marketing. "Since our
goal is to be on the leading edge of technological innovations, we knew we
needed something more robust this year -- but without a huge expense.
Ruckus was the only solution we found to provide solid coverage across the
entire property at a price that was well within our budget."
"Being chosen for such a media-worthy and important charitable program --
by a prestigious publication like Esquire -- is a great testament to the
power of our technology," said Selina Lo, president and CEO of Ruckus
Wireless. "As one of the technologies being showcased as an example of
cutting-edge innovation, it's important that the Wi-Fi network be as
dependable as a wired network. We've built our reputation as pioneers of
technology that achieves just that, and we're happy to see it in the
spotlight at the Esquire House."
Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi: The Superstar of Wireless Broadband
The $15 million Esquire home, designed by award-winning designers and
architects Xorin Balbes and Paul Ashley of TempleHome, includes an
800-bottle walk-in wine cellar, a 500-square-foot pool and spa, a private
screening room, five fireplaces (two outside and three inside), a
250-square-foot walk-in closet, his-and-hers master bathrooms with a shared
double steam shower, and a six-car garage. It also includes an
entertainment room outfitted with a touch-screen computer table for playing
games or movies as well as for controlling household systems, and a $50,000
racing car simulator (powered by Intel) used by professional drivers to
train.
To ensure reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi coverage to the entire property,
Esquire is using three ZoneFlex 7942 802.11n access points (APs) and one
ZoneDirector central management console.
Each ZoneFlex AP is built with Ruckus' patented beamsteering technology, a
smart antenna array that steers Wi-Fi signals around interference and
toward the client device in real-time to provide consistent, higher
capacity coverage and extended range. This means fewer APs are needed to
cover a larger area -- at a much lower price -- than would be possible with
competitive offerings.
The Ruckus ZoneDirector acts as a central point of configuration,
management, administration and security for all Ruckus ZoneFlex APs. With
the Ruckus ZoneDirector, Esquire's IT staff can see what's happening in the
Wi-Fi environment at any time, such as the number of users associated with
each AP and their bandwidth requirements. Through a dashboard console IT
staff can throttle bandwidth usage, detect rogue APs and devices and block
access to unauthorized users.
"As the lead technical advisor to Esquire's 'Hollywood House,' I was
thrilled to discover the Ruckus system and the reliable coverage it
provides," said Mike Gendimenico, senior technical marketing engineer for
Intel. "The system was also extremely simple to install. We were up and
running within a few minutes. Based on the performance so far, this year's
events will go off without a hitch."
