DramaTel: Reach Out and Catch Someone!
ATLANTA, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Erik Di Somma, President of DDI
Technologies, has begun a nationwide direct-response advertising program for
his company's controversial product, the DramaTel Phone Card. DDI Technologies
is using conventional means to market a most unconventional product. DDI,
which manufactures the DramaTel Phone Card, has produced a two-minute
commercial that has begun airing nationwide.
In the ad, the DramaTel Card uses the edgy tag line, "The Almost Illegal
Phone Card." The company markets the card as a way to catch a cheating spouse
or to track down a deadbeat dad. The phone card gives its user a way to defeat
caller ID. Di Somma describes the service as counter-deceptive. "Our customers
can confirm their nagging suspicions if their partner continually avoids their
calls," Di Somma says. The DramaTel card works by allowing its user to program
another name and number to appear on the recipient's caller-ID.
The company's humorous commercial features a suspicious girlfriend calling
her boyfriend who's been avoiding her calls. The cheater answers when she
programs his best buddy's number into the caller-ID system, using DramaTel's
phone card.
Ask Dr. Drama ...
According to the Ask Dr. Drama page on DramaTel's website, if you suspect
your boyfriend may be cheating -- he probably is. Calling the person through
the DramaTel Network provides an anonymous way for a suspecting partner to
rest their worries. The company believes that anonymity breeds honesty.
Another bit of advice offered by Dr. Drama suggests the user can take a
break from "another tasteless meatloaf dinner at home with the wife." All he
has to do is pretend to be calling from his office number while he is really
enjoying a beer at a local bar.
DramaTel's new ads are heavily rotated during episodes of the popular
reality show Cheaters. DDI has formed a strategic alliance with Cheaters to
advertise its product. DDI's product was an instant online hit on Howard
Stern's fan blog, VH1's "Best Week Ever," as well as on E!'s "The Soup,"
hosted by Joel McHale.
DDI's campaign has spawned a firestorm of controversy between victims of
infidelity and those who oppose the service. The expected debate is OK with
DDI since the product, DramaTel, along with programs such as Cheaters may
reduce affairs and even help save relationships as people become more
reluctant to cheat.
