Obama And McCain Challenged By Secular Civic Forum

After Rick Warren's Saddleback Church forum, secular Americans aim to submit candidates to public questioning

NEW YORK (EWORLDWIRE) Sep 22, 2008

All secular, non-religious Americans are calling for a forum to pose their questions to presidential candidates Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.

Both candidates are invited to answer the questions of American non-believers in a setting similar to the one presented by Rick Warren at Saddleback Church. If the candidates agree to participate in the Secular Forum, the event will take place right before the November Election Day. Should the candidates be unwilling to attend the Secular Forum, organizers led by Mikhail Dvortsov are planning to press the president-elect to face American non-believers.

Says Secular Forum 2008 organizer Mikhail Dvortsov:

"It's disheartening to me and to many of my atheist friends to watch religion occupy unduly but firmly the center stage during the most important period in American politics - the presidential election.

"The infamous political hubris of U.S. government that resulted in our country's numerous failures internationally and domestically is in large part related to the effect of its Christian hubris - a world view that creates magisterial American exceptionalism by imagining that this country is on a mission from God. Unfortunately, this daydream is all too readily and mindlessly embraced by both democrats and republicans.

"Millions of non-religious Americans deserve to be heard by Obama and McCain, if our Presidents-to-be value critical thinking at all. We have contacted both campaigns to see if the candidates are ready to face non-religious Americans' questions."
