4 Militants, Soldier Killed in Kashmir Gunfights

Srinagar, Sept 22: Four militants and an Indian army soldier were killed in two separate gunfights in Kashmir on Monday.

Army sources said that two militants and a soldier were killed in the mountainous Poonch region of Kashmir on Monday. They said that two militants and a soldier were killed in the area on the Sunday. "The encounter between the infiltrating militants and soldiers began Sunday morning and continued till Monday," they said.

Meanwhile, an army spokesman said that soldiers foiled an exfiltration bid in the Tangdhar sector along the frontier with Pakistan in North Kashmir. He said that two militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight. "Two AK-47 rifles were recovered. The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained," he said.
