Capital Ties Leads The Trend To Greener Neckwear
Capital Ties today announced plans to expand its production of green-themed ties targeted to business and political leaders who support awareness of environmental issues.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (EWORLDWIRE) Sep 19, 2008
Capital Ties, a Washington, D.C.-based neckwear design and manufacturing company, today announced plans to expand its production of green-themed ties targeted to business and political leaders who support awareness of environmental issues.
Capital Ties' first green-themed design was based on the "chasing arrows" Recycling symbol. "It was a great challenge to try and marry green passion with fashion," says Stuart Hotchkiss, owner of Capital Ties, "especially given that a lot of our corporate executives do not recognize the recycling symbol."
In fact, Mr. Hotchkiss received an e-mail from billionaire investor and Capital Ties' fan Warren Buffett saying, "The symbol just isn't that familiar [to me] and I doubt that most men are looking to make a statement on the subject."
Undeterred by Mr. Buffett's warning, Mr. Hotchkiss mailed hundreds of letters to corporate leaders asking them to pledge to buy and wear the Recycling tie on Earth Day 2008. He also sent a specially made sample to former Vice President Al Gore who commended the tie and effort.
Pledges started to roll in from employees of Waste Management, Covanta Energy, St. Louis Earth Day, Go Green Expo and other organizations.
By Earth Day 2008, Mr. Hotchkiss had met his goal of selling out his entire first production of red and green Recycling ties.
More praise has been received for the Recycling tie from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. The American Museum of Natural History in New York City has reordered "a large quantity" of Recycling ties and is featuring them in conjunction with its new "Climate Room" which opens next month.
Capital Ties' second green-themed tie is scheduled for release in January, 2009, and will be more an abstract Earth Day design. Mr. Hotchkiss has yet to finalize color choices or pick a name for the design but promises it to be even more fashionable than his Recycling tie.
