WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum joins in the worldwide condemnation of the upcoming address of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"The appearance on the U.N. platform of President Ahmadinejad, who has repeatedly denied the Holocaust and advocated for the destruction of a member state,Israel, makes a mockery of the ideals of peace and international cooperation on which the U.N. was founded. It is an affront to all its member nations," said Museum Chairman Fred S. Zeidman. "President Ahmadinejad's genocidal language starkly illustrates that, even 60 years after the Holocaust, virulent forms of antisemitism continue to flourish in different parts of the world. The international community must be unanimous in denouncing it, and denying these dangerous words and ideas any legitimacy."

A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum strives to inspire leaders and citizens to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity. Its primary mission is to advance and disseminate knowledge about this unprecedented tragedy, to preserve the memory of those who suffered, and to encourage all people to reflect upon the moral questions raised by the events of the Holocaust as well as their own responsibilities as citizens of a global society.

Almost 28 million people have visited the Museum since it opened in 1993. Through its Web site--parts of which have been translated into Farsi, Arabic, Urdu, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, French, and Greek--the Museum reaches millions more around the world every year.
