Michelle Staton, Executive Director of the PA Auto Theft Prevention Authority, noted that, "The Authority is excited to once again partner with the Philadelphia Eagles to teachPennsylvania drivers about the simple things they can do to protect their vehicles from theft."
In the southeast region ofPennsylvania, the home of the Philadelphia Eagles, 40% ofPennsylvania's annual thefts occur. Drivers from this area and across the Commonwealth are encouraged to take simple steps to protect their vehicle. "When you lock your car, you are taking steps to block auto theft. I know it seems simple, but common sense is really your best defense," Staton said.
The PA Auto Theft Prevention Authority reminds you to never leave your vehicle running -- even if you are going into a convenience store or using an ATM. Always roll up the windows, close the sun roof, lock the doors, and hide valuables like cell phones and navigation systems. Staton cautioned that, "Auto theft is a crime of opportunity. Don't make it easier for thieves to steal your car."
Beyond the common sense measures, drivers in high-theft areas should consider adding after-market alarms, stolen vehicle tracking devices and fuel kill switches.
Eagles Senior Vice President of Business Operations Mark Donovan said, "We are happy to be partnering again this year with an organization whose mission is to protect Eagles fans. The PA Auto Theft Prevention Authority helps our fans defend themselves against theft by delivering important information in a unique and entertaining way. The Lock, Block and Win Sweepstakes is an example of how the Authority is actually rewarding our fans for protecting themselves."
