America's Pet Birds are Broadway Bound

NEW YORK, Sept. 16, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- They can sing...they can dance...they can fly! Today, WebVet (www.webvet.com), the most comprehensive and credible online resource for pet health and wellness information and education, announced the launch of "Birds on Broadway 2008," an online search for the country's most talented parrots, canaries and other winged animals. The winner of this inaugural online video contest, to be announced on Wednesday, October 29th, will receive a grand prize of $2,500 and will be offered the opportunity to make live appearances on behalf of WebVet. Additional details, rules and regulations are available at WebVet.com.

From 12:01 pm EDT on Tuesday, September 16th through 11:59 pm EDT on Tuesday, October 14th, bird owners from across the country can log onto www.webvet.com/broadwaybirds and submit a maximum two minute video of their bird's top talent -- from belting out Gershwin to breaking out "Saturday Night Fever" style dance moves and more.

Once uploaded, WebVet's panel of judges composed of top-flight veterinarians and music industry professionals will provide ongoing commentary on the performances and narrow the field to the top three most promising pet birds. Finalists will be unveiled on WebVet.com on Tuesday, October 21st.

From 10:00 am EDT on October 21st through 11:59 pm EDT on Tuesday, October 28th, the public is invited to log onto WebVet.com and vote for the bird they believe has the most talent. The winner of Birds on Broadway will be announced at WebVet.com on Wednesday, October 29th.

"As the leading online resource for pet health and wellness information, WebVet's primary goal is to educate pet owners on what makes their pet both physically and emotionally healthy. In this particular case, it's a known fact that birds that sing and talk more frequently tend to be stronger, healthier and therefore live longer," noted Hope Schultz, President of WebVet. "This said, there's no reason why we can't offer a little entertainment value at the same time. So whether it's a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner or an inspirational verse from Shakespeare, this is your chance to let your bird shine on an international stage and possibly earn bragging rights as the top Bird on Broadway."
