Leading Journalists, Economists Discuss Economic Impact of New Administration; FNC Co-hosts Event as Precursor to First Presidential Debate
OXFORD, Miss., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Under a new President,
will Americans be able to keep their homes? On Sept. 22, leading economists
and journalists will attempt to answer that question in a panel discussion
sponsored by FNC Inc.(R) and The University of Mississippi Department of
Journalism as a precursor to the first Presidential Debate.
The presentation, which begins at 4 p.m. in the University's Farley Hall,
Room 202, is free and open to the public.
Samir Husni, University of Mississippi Journalism chair and world-renowned
magazine expert, will moderate the panel comprised of Joanne Lipman, Conde
Nast Portfolio Magazine editor in chief; Dan Goodgame, Fortune Small Business
managing editor; Rob Blackwell, American Banker's Washington Bureau chief,
Bill Shughart, UM professor of economics; and FNC CEO Bill Rayburn.
"The economic impact is the most important element of the whole
presidential election," Husni said. "I don't think we've seen this country in
such desperate economic need. It's always good to hear from objective experts
who are not related to either campaign."
Questions for the panelists will include:
-- What economic conditions/concerns will the new president face?
-- Will the mortgage industry crisis continue with a new president in
office?
-- How do you perceive the housing market under the McCain or Obama
administration?
"We are excited to be hosting an event of this caliber with the
University," said FNC CEO Bill Rayburn. "The panel discussion will be a
fantastic way to confront a crucial issue for our economic future and begin a
week of great excitement leading up to the debate."
