Awarepoint Adds Matt Perkins as Chief Technology Officer
Industry Veteran Joins Awarepoint Executive Team After 10 Years at Motorola
Awarepoint Corporation, a provider of
real-time location system (RTLS) solutions, today announced that Matthew R.
Perkins has joined the company as chief technology officer. In this role,
Matt is responsible for directing the next generation of Awarepoint
Real-time Awareness Solution offerings and will design and develop products
for introduction into new location-awareness market spaces and
applications.
Prior to Awarepoint, Matt spent 10 years at Motorola as the Technical
Director of the Things-to-Things Research Center, where he was responsible
for aligning business relationships with technology roadmaps, directing
strategic joint research partnerships related to distributed sensor
networks and leading the development of Motorola's Asset Tracking and Smart
Energy technologies. He also served as Motorola's Director Representative
for the ZigBee Board of Directors. Matt's extensive experience includes
being an individual contributor in the design and simulation of low-power,
low-rate wireless sensor network protocols and the development of social
networking algorithms and proof-of-concept vehicles. He led research
efforts related to radio-location technologies, architected RTLS ad-hoc
networks, contributed to the IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.15.3 standards and
remains an active participant in the ZigBee Alliance.

An internationally known speaker on the topic of wireless sensor network
technologies and a seasoned thought leader who is respected by senior
leadership teams, standards bodies and technical committees, Matt has
authored 12 U.S. issued patents, as well as numerous journal and conference
publications. He graduated from the University of Florida with both a
Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical
Engineering.
"Matt's engineering inventiveness will allow us to build on our core
expertise and help form the technical vision for our continued growth,"
said Awarepoint's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Howe. "His ability to
merge innovation with entrepreneurial opportunity will be instrumental in
our success, and we are delighted he has joined the Awarepoint team."
Awarepoint is expanding to a variety of industries and growing its
healthcare vision to a new generation of connected health solution and is
actively building an ecosystem of partners that will enable it to offer its
location-aware technologies for use in a wider range of applications and
service offerings.
About Awarepoint
Awarepoint's real-time location systems (RTLSs) include its real-time
awareness platform, firmware, RFID tags, sensors, and bridges. Awarepoint's
technologies collect raw sensor data and transform that data into
high-value positioning information that can be used to add location
awareness to a variety of healthcare, manufacturing, security and other
applications. Requiring no hard wiring, Awarepoint's "plug and track"
network is a fully managed service, including hardware, software, remote
monitoring and maintenance. The company is headquartered in San Diego,
California and serves hospitals across the United States through a national
