Country Music Recording Artist Phil Vassar to Participate in Second Harvest Heartland Donation Drive

    ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ --

    WHAT:   Second Harvest Heartland, Minnesota's largest hunger relief
            organization, is holding a food and funds donation drive as part
            of Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort during the month of
            September designed to encourage individuals to take action to help
            end domestic hunger.

    WHO:    Country music recording artist Phil Vassar will make a personal
            appearance and will take action against hunger himself by
            accepting donations of food and funds on behalf of Second Harvest
            Heartland. Vassar has teamed with Feeding America, the nationwide
            food bank network, to serve as the spokesperson for Hunger Action
            Month.

            **Those unable to attend the donation drive are encouraged to
            visit http://www.2harvest.org to make a donation and learn about
            additional ways take action against domestic hunger or visit Cub
            Foods, where customers can round-up their grocery bills through
            September 27 with the proceeds benefiting Second Harvest
            Heartland.

    MORE:   The need to support hunger relief in Minnesota is increasingly
            important. Last year, there were about 482,000 Minnesotans in
            poverty, up 60,000 from 2006, and 1.9 million visits to Minnesota
            Food Shelves, up 100,000 from 2006. Second Harvest Heartland is
            the Upper Midwest's largest hunger-relief organization, with a
            mission of ending hunger through community partnerships. Second
            Harvest Heartland serves 59 counties in Minnesota and western
            Wisconsin. A total of 34.5 million pounds of grocery products were
            distributed last year to more than 1,000 nonprofit member agencies
            and programs, including food shelves, soup kitchens, shelters,
            senior centers and children's after-school programs. For each
            $1 donated, Second Harvest Heartland can distribute more than
            $9 worth of grocery products for those in need. For more
