Mattress Discounters West announced plans today to open at least five more stores in California between now and the end of 2009. This announcement will bring the total number of stores in California and Nevada to eighty-three.

"All Mattress Discounters stores in California and Reno, Nevada, are open for business and we are looking to expand even more," according to Mike Wilson, VP of Marketing for Mattress Discounters West. Wilson makes this statement in light of yesterday's announcement that Mattress Discounters East, based in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Mattress Discounters West purchased most Mattress Discounters stores and the brand name for the Western United States in 2002 and has since operated as a separate, privately held company based in Citrus Heights, California.
