PA Agriculture Secretary Invites Elementary Students to Discover Agriculture at Farm City Day
Sept. 19 Registration Deadline Approaches
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today invited elementary school and youth community groups to discover agriculture through exciting hands-on activities and educational demonstrations during the 12th Annual Farm City Day, Oct. 3.
Farm City Day will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center inHarrisburg. The registration deadline is Sept. 19.
"With less than two percent of Americans engaged in farming today, each generation is becoming further removed from agriculture," said Wolff. "I welcome all teachers and students enrolled in second through fifth grades inPennsylvania to explore agriculture at Farm City Day, which will help them better understand the origins of our food supply and the career and educational opportunities available to them in agriculture, even in urban areas."
More than 40 exhibitors will participate in this year's event, including more than 20 hands-on educational stations about agricultural products like dairy, vegetables, beef and apples.
Public-, private-, charter- and home-school classes and community groups with students in 2nd-5th grades may take part in Farm City Day. To register, contact Brynn Kepler at 717-787-4627 or brykepler@state.pa.us before the Sept. 19 deadline.
