EagleBank Signs On as Title Sponsor of Inaugural EagleBank Bowl

The game will take place on Saturday, December 20 at RFK Stadium beginning at 11:00 a.m. The event will be the first post-season bowl game of 2008 and will be broadcast live on ESPN.

"Through our participation as title sponsor of this new event, EagleBank brings a unique entertainment entity toWashington, D.C. while also creating a high level of economic impact for restaurants, hotels, retailers and entertainment venues."

Provided they win at least six games this season, The United States Naval Academy (Navy) will serve as the home team for the 2008 EagleBank Bowl, with the United States Military Academy (Army) serving in the same capacity for 2009. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) will supply the opponent in 2008, provided enough ACC teams are bowl eligible.

"In addition to putting the nation's capital on the map as a college football destination, an event such as the EagleBank Bowl provides several benefits to the community," said Pincus. "We expect to raise tens of thousands of dollars each year for local charities, among them Positive Choices, a D.C.- based, non-profit organization that provides inner-city youths with special development programs." The full roster of charitable beneficiaries will be announced in the coming weeks.

"The District is extremely proud to serve as the host city for the EagleBank Bowl," said Mayor Adrian M. Fenty. "As this season's first college bowl, it's only fitting it be held right here in the nation's capital. As we continue our efforts in transforming the District into a world-class city, residents and visitors can expect more exciting events like the EagleBank Bowl to be created and held in this great city of ours."

Sean Metcalf, an aide to D.C. Councilman Jack Evans, and Marie Rudolph, Director of Government Relations for George Washington University, are the principals of theWashington, DC Bowl Committee. It was their vision, leadership and persistence that helped the nation's capital land one of the two new bowls games awarded for 2008.

"This has been a very long yet gratifying process," said Metcalf. "We're proud to welcome EagleBank as our title sponsor and ESPN as our broadcast partner. We'd also like to recognize the participation and involvement of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission." Navy Federal Credit Union and Marriott International Inc. have also signed on as sponsors for 2008, Metcalf said, with discussions presently underway with additional sponsors on several different levels.

RFK has a rich history of hosting football including at the high school, college and professional levels and as such, the Commission is proud to make the inaugural EagleBank Bowl part of this strong football tradition," said Matthew D. "We look forward to working with Mayor Fenty, City Council Members and our partners on the Washington DC Bowl Committee for this first of its kind event."
