Space Shuttle Commander Pamela Melroy to Speak at Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce Event September 17th

Chamber Recognizes First Responder Officers of the Quarter

RESTON, Va., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TheGreater Reston Chamber of Commerce will host an event on September 17th featuring Space Shuttle Commander, Pamela Melroy as guest speaker. The Chamber will recognize local First Responders through the first ever Officers of the Quarter Awards which honorFairfax County police, sheriff, fire and rescue employees for their dedicated service to the community. Additionally, a $5,000 check from the Executive Women's Roundtable will be presented to INC.spire, the business incubator program of theGreater Reston Chamber of Commerce, to support a woman owned business.

Pamela Melroy has piloted two missions to the international space station and is only the second female Shuttle Commander with the recent successful completion of the STS-120 mission last November. Commander Melroy has been a USAF C-17 test pilot, flew combat missions in the 1991 Gulf War and has space walked numerous times.

The First Responders Officers of the Quarter Awards represent a new initiative of theGreater Reston Chamber of Commerce through a newly formed committee chaired by Joe Ritchey, Prospective Inc. and Kathy Hannon, Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers. This committee works directly with the Reston District Citizens' Advisory committee, and the Police, Fire and Sheriff Departments to identify and recognize exemplary service by the dedicated area first responders. The committee also works to enhance communication for emergency preparedness within all parts of theReston community. This quarter's recipients include firefighters Technician Mike Frames, Technician Mike Eddy and Technician Scott Pifer from North Point Station,Reston, VA and Police Officer Kimberly Folden of Reston District Station,Reston, VA.
