Skullcandy to Incorporate Color mirasol Displays in Next Generation of Portable Music Devices

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), today announced that Skullcandy, a developer of core audio products, will incorporate color mirasol(TM) displays into future MFM Pro headphones with an integrated music player.

The agreement with Skullcandy marks the second mobile music device to incorporate color mirasol displays aimed at the highly competitive U.S. market. Portable music device users geared toward the action sports market will benefit immediately from the mirasol display's low power usage and great clarity in bright environments. A true technological innovation, Qualcomm's mirasol display works by reflecting light so that specific wavelengths interfere with each other to create color. The phenomenon that makes a butterfly's wings shimmer is the same process used in Qualcomm's mirasol displays.

"Skullcandy has been a unique venture since day one, as we've built the brand on our ability to provide our customers with unique products that fit their lifestyle and needs," said Rick Alden, chief executive officer and founder of Skullcandy. "Our unique product design, coupled with Qualcomm's low power mirasol display, greatly enhances sports-related mobile entertainment and will give our customers long battery life and the ability to see their content nearly anywhere."

Skullcandy specializes in creating customized consumer experiences through unique product form factors. Its music players are not just designed for "in-your-pocket" portability. Products with the Skullcandy label often come in the form of headphones or a wristwatch with built-in music playback/record capabilities. Skullcandy produces sports-oriented headphones, ear buds, hands-free devices, audio backpacks and portable music players.

"With the addition of Skullcandy, we are looking to expand our presence in the U.S. market and move mirasol displays into the hands of more consumers," said Jim Cathey, vice president of business development for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies. "This collaboration is yet another proof point of the demand we are seeing for energy-efficient displays in the handset and portable consumer device space. With the power savings of mirasol displays, we are telling companies like Skullcandy to leave the task of power allocation to us so they can continue to design inventive products based on their customers' expectations."

The MFM Pro headphone will be on display September 10-12 in Qualcomm's exhibit at CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment: Moscone West, Level 1, Booth 435. To learn more about mirasol displays, visit http://www.mirasoldisplays.com.
