TV Widget Publishing Platform Featured at DEMO '08 Conference
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- tvCompass Inc. announced today at the
DEMO '08 conference inSan Diego, CA, that it will feature the TV 2.0
Platform, a software application, content publishing and Internet widget
framework to deepen the enjoyment of TV viewing. The TV 2.0 Platform
uses fast-growing home WiFi networks to deliver contextual content to today's
multi-tasking TV viewers in a rich second-screen environment. Powering the
first WiFi Mobile Internet Device (MID) developed for the digital home, the
tvCompass TV 2.0 Platform brings together OEM customizable MID hardware and
hosted content to deliver two-way interactive entertainment for enhanced TV.
"The multi-tasking TV viewer has created an opportunity to deliver an
enhanced TV experience by merging the Internet with traditional TV viewing.
The multi-device TV home has also created an opportunity to deliver augmented
content, while offering a new approach to controlling the digitally
connected home through a single device," said Edward J. Zylka, CEO of
tvCompass Inc. "The recent announcement by Intel Corporation and Yahoo! Inc.
for the Widget Channel, an application framework optimized for TV and related
consumer electronics products helps reinforce the strategy we brought to the
market last November. While we concur that using widgets to augment TV
programming content simplifies consumer usability, we believe a second screen
approach maintains the passive viewing environment that TV watching is all
about."
The TV 2.0 Platform combined with tvCompass's WiFi Mobile Internet Device
lets viewers engage in a variety of personal experiences using a second screen
device -- without disrupting the TV screen. These experiences range from
access to an "off screen" Interactive Program Guide (IPG) for cable,
satellite, HDTV broadcast or video on demand channels, instant access to local
weather conditions, staying current with news and information, tracking
favorite sports teams play-by-play, interacting with friends via
messaging, discovering new content and services, or sharing favorite shows
with friends and family. Examples of advanced TV services include social
networking, community and participation (voting, IM, and chat), and sync with
TV (real-time sport events, award shows, reality TV, etc.). tvCompass makes
these wireless services accessible within easy reach of the remote control or
anywhere in the home.
tvCompass in partnership with ESPN, recently launched the ESPN-branded
"The Ultimate Remote" aimed at simplifying advanced home theater equipment
operation, providing sports fans with one-touch wireless access to their
favorite Gamecasts, ESPN.com fantasy leagues, news, stats, scores and more.
