Global Financial Luminaries Convene Inaugural World Economy Conference

Hosted at the University of Virginia's Miller Center inCharlottesville, former finance ministers from various countries will gather to address topics, including: financial forecasting in light of population changes, resources, and economic growth; navigating the causes and solutions to today's most pressing concerns, including the sub-prime fallout and the inflation spike dilemma; and the debut of a new class of investments like sovereign wealth funds.

"We live in a time of unprecedented interconnectedness. Events that affect one country and its economic welfare affect the entire world," said Mortimer Caplin, the founding member of Caplin & Drysdale and the conference namesake. "It's in the spirit of such cooperation that these countries from all over the globe are represented here to help move us closer to real solutions," added Caplin.

The Mortimer Caplin conference was born out of the realization that globalization of the 21st century comes with both significant challenges and responsibilities, and the need to strengthen existing alliances while creating new ones.

"These leaders have a formidable task in their hands," said Caplin. "But we've created an environment where they can fully bring their talent and skill and offer frank, candid opinions and advice that will lead us to a better place."

The primary objective of the conference is to create a stable world economy.
