Bear Mauls Labourer to Death in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 5: In the recent instance of human-animals conflict, a bear mauled a labourer to death in Kashmir.

Police said that a wild bear attacked four labourers at Harwan, some 25 kms from summer capital, Srinagar. The bear critically injured a labourer before escaping into the woods. The injured was taken to hospital, where he succumbed. The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz Sheikh.

The attacks of wild animals have increased in recent past. Last week, two persons were injured when a wild bear attacked them some 28 kms from Srinagar.

On August 28, the wild bear mauled to death a villager in Manzgam, Noorabad village in South Kashmir.

On August 30, a wild bear attacked and injured three persons in south Kashmir.

According to wild life officials more than 75 persons were killed and 330 others injured in the attacks carried by the wild animals in Kashmir during past two years. About a dozen wild animals have also been killed by the people in the retaliatory action.
