National Press Club Panel, Denver Press Club Hold Joint Event on Future of Journalism

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following release was issued by the National Press Club:

WHAT:

A forum on "The First Amendment, Freedom of Speech and the Future of Journalism" featuring leading Denver journalists. The panel is part of a public education campaign undertaken by the National Press Club to honor its centennial year. The Press Club's partners in this program are: the Denver Press Club, which is hosting this event, and Aviva USA, one of the nation's fastest growing life insurers.

WHO:

Mark Cardwell, Denver Post managing editor for digital media and strategic development

Brian Maass, CBS 4 (KCNC-TV) investigative reporter,

Patty Calhoun, editor and co-founder of Westword,

Deb Hurley, The Metropolitan State College of Denver journalism professor

Gil Klein, veteranWashington correspondent and director of the NPC Centennial project, moderator

WHEN:

6:00 p.m. with a short version of the Club's centennial documentary, "A Century of Headlines," followed by the panel, which ends with questions from the audience.

WHY:

As part of a year-long effort to mark its centennial, the National Press Club, the world's leading professional organization for journalists, is organizing an ambitious program to hold forums across the country. Already, more than 30 events have been scheduled.

DETAILS:

This public education program is a partnership among: the National Press Club (www.press.org); the Denver Press Club (www.denverpressclub.org) and Aviva USA (www.AvivaUSA.com). The event begins with the screening of a short version of the Club's centennial documentary film: "The National Press Club at 100: A Century of Headlines," Everyone attending will get a free copy of the full documentary. The panel discussion will give the public a chance to hear and ask questions of top Denver journalists as they discuss the state of journalism today and the way forward.
