WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the National Press Club:

Council on Competitiveness Vice Chair Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will explain how the U.S. can achieve energy security, stimulate energy innovation and job growth, and protect the environment at a National Press Club luncheon on Sept. 9.

The "First 100 Days" energy action plan, designed to guide the next president and Congress, was devised by more than 200 corporate CEOs, labor leaders, university presidents and other energy experts.

Dr. Jackson, a theoretical physicist and former chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is known for speaking out on scientific, technological and engineering gaps in the American workforce. The National Press Club luncheon begins promptly at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9. Dr. Jackson's remarks begin just after 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Advance reservations should be made by phoning (202) 662-7501.
