HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll today issued a proclamation acknowledging Sept. 11 as American Red Cross Blood Donor Day.

The Commonwealth ofPennsylvania and The American Red Cross ask donors of all blood types to give blood in commemoration of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and to help strengthen community blood supplies. One blood donation can save up to three lives.

"One way to honor their memory is by helping to save the lives of those currently hospitalized, and perhaps those who will be hospitalized tomorrow or the next day. Please consider giving blood -- the gift of life -- this Thursday, Sept. 11."

The declaration states: "There is an ongoing need for blood donors inPennsylvania ... it is with the support of organizations like the American Red Cross that we are able to continue to stand up to every challenge."
