AT&T Handles Unprecedented Levels of Data From the 2008 Republican National Convention
DALLAS, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today
announced the company's wireless network delivered an outstanding performance
this week during the 2008 Republican National Convention.
AT&T, handling unprecedented levels of wireless data usage from the crowds
attending the event, confirmed an estimated 40 percent increase in data sent
over the company's wireless network and a 17 percent increase in voice traffic
in theMinneapolis-St. Paul area compared with the company's previous highs.
Other findings include:
-- In the host city of St. Paul, AT&T experienced an 80 percent increase
in wireless calls and three times more data volume over the company's
wireless network during the convention versus the previous high last
month.
-- Inside the Xcel Energy Center, AT&T experienced a 100 percent increase
in voice and data traffic over its wireless network from the first to
the last day of the convention.
-- Throughout the event, AT&T maintained data speeds of more than 1
megabit per second (Mbps) on the company's 3G network and more than 140
kilobits per second (Kbps) on its GSM network.

accustomed to planning for the increased network traffic that occurs at
large-scale events like the 2008 Republican National Convention," said Dave

AT&T invested approximately $13 million to prepare for the expected
increase on AT&T's wireless network during the 2008 Republican National
Convention. These enhancements not only accommodated the convention, but many
of the benefits will be retained afterward.
Over the past two years, AT&T added more than 120 cell sites across
Minnesota, with an additional 80 sites to be added this year.
