Government of Canada Invests in Healthy Food Products for Children

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA - (Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2008) - The Government of Canada is investing in the production of nutritious and allergen-free foods for children, announced Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. This Government is contributing $33,000 for the purchase and installation of food processing equipment at the BOBOBABY Inc. facility in Burnaby, British Columbia.

"Stephen Harper's Government is committed to making smart investments that ensure a strong and profitable agriculture sector and safe food for all Canadians," said Minister Ritz. "This project will not only help ensure high quality, allergen-free food for children, but it will also benefit farmers in British Columbia and help promote the Canadian agricultural sector in world markets."

The BOBOBABY Inc. facility will be expanded to include new food processing equipment that will enable the company to introduce a new line of organic and allergen-free children's meals and snacks. The products include pre-cooked and frozen dishes that are certified organic, guaranteed free of artificial colour or preservatives, high in fibre, and low in salt, sugar and fats. Additionally, the product is especially unique as it is the only line that is free of the top nine allergens recognized by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

"We are very grateful for the federal government's support and contribution to our project," said Kalpna Solanki, President of BOBOBABY Inc. "This funding will allow us to enhance our manufacturing facilities to produce more high quality and allergen-free meals for children, while benefiting local farmers and helping the environment."

Funding under the Agri-Opportunities program is provided for projects that can be expected to increase market opportunities for the Canadian agricultural industry across the value chain and generate demand for primary agricultural products.
