3 Iraqi citizens injured in AQI attack in Adhamiyah
Multi-National Division - Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD - A grenade tossed by a member of Al-Qaeda in Iraq injured three Iraqi citizens shortly before 9 p.m. in the Adhamiyah district of Baghdad Sept. 3.
A man approached a Sons of Iraq checkpoint and tossed a grenade over the protective barriers in an attempt to injure the men providing security in northern Baghdad. However, the grenade missed its intended target and hit a passing vehicle and injured three Iraqi citizens.
The injured were transported to an Iraqi hospital for treatment.
"Al Qaeda in Iraq continues to target honest, hardworking citizens of Iraq in an effort to dissuade the prosperity that now exists in Adhamiyah," said Maj. John Gossart, executive officer for 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad. "Today's attack shows that Al Qaeda in Iraq has no concern for the Iraqi people. But the Iraqi Security and Coalition forces will continue to hunt these terrorists down and put them behind bars where they belong."
