DALLAS, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Press Club ofDallas and Press Club of
Dallas Foundation have announced they will extend the deadline for Katie
Awards entries to 5 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008. Entries must be delivered
to Press Club Katie Awards, Attention Michael Patterson at Edelman, 3131

Chair in Journalism, Southern Methodist University, says, "This extension is
being offered in order to ensure the most competitive Katie Awards possible.
We also want to make sure that everyone has a chance to enter. While we have
a number of categories with competitive entries, there are a few categories in
danger of being scrapped unless more entries are received by the new
deadline."
The categories and entries to date are shown on the spreadsheet posted on
http://www.pressclubdallas.com).
Entries will be judged by the faculties of the Poynter Institute inSt.
Petersburg, FL, the University of Missouri, and several national magazine
editors. Pederson said, "Immediate Press Club Past President Hugh Aynesworth,
Press Club Foundation Past President Rand LaVonn, and I have worked hard to
line up an extraordinary group of judges for the various categories for the
Katie Awards. We have made personal contact with the judges, and we believe
we have everything in place to restore the integrity of the process."
Press Club of Dallas Foundation President Cheryl Hall and board member
Gloria Campos are co-chairing the 2008 Katie Awards. All winners will be
announced at a gala reception to be held at the Sixth Floor Museum Saturday,
November 15, 2008. Keynote speaker will be author and award-winning
journalist Hugh Aynesworth. Unlike previous years, only a winner in each
category will be announced. There will be no finalists.
Hall said, "This will be the 50th Katie Awards competition and the first
since it was cancelled in 2007, when judging improprieties were discovered.
The Press Club of Dallas Foundation, which oversees scholarships generated by
the Katies, has worked arduously with the Press Club to restore integrity to
the competition."
