Texas Burglar & Fire Alarm Association Endorses House Bill 2833
DALLAS, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 1, 2007, House Bill 2833,
authored by state Rep. Joe Driver, R-Garland, went into effect strengthening
the Texas Private Security Act. Created to revise the rules and regulations
of Chapter 1702 of the Texas Occupational Code which govern the private
investigation, private alarm, and private security industries, House Bill 2833
is an omnibus motion to update and clarify these rules and regulations. To
provide the most comprehensive protection for allTexas consumers, language
was included in HB 2833 to protectTexas consumers against computer forensic
investigation by an unlicensed investigator, and does not affect the PC-repair
industry.
"While this new language might have initially caused confusion in the
PC-repair industry, there was no intent to regulate the PC-repair industry,
and this has since been clarified by the Texas Private Security Bureau," said
Chris Russell, president of TBFAA. "When the House Law Enforcement Committee
enlisted the assistance of key alarm industry associations and personnel, we
were eager to help. Mike Samulin, Rodney Hooker, the TBFAA Legislative
Committee, along with many other key alarm industry personnel gave willfully
of their time to advise the state legislatures and in doing so assisted in the
creation of a law that strongly ensures the safety of all our customers. This
new law is fully endorsed by the TBFAA."
"When HB 2833 was drafted, I was the Vice-Chairman of the Private Security
Board, and as a Board member was not able to lobby for or submit legislation,
but I was able to be a resource for information between the associations that
worked on the bill and the agency," stated Mike Samulin, Intruder Alert
Systems, Inc. "As the proposed bill was being written and developed I was
able to provide insight from the perspective of the Board and agency as well
as from a member of one of the professional groups that was involved in the
writing of the bill. This was truly a monumental event to have different
professional associations come together in an effort to provide better
protection for the citizens of the state ofTexas by drafting legislation that
regulated the alarm industry."
"I appreciate the support of the Texas Burglar and Fire Alarm Association
for strengthening the Private Security Act through House Bill 2833 during the
last Legislature," said State Rep. Driver. "Their assistance was invaluable to
me in crafting a law that has proven beneficial to all Texans."
