AT&T Named One of the Best Places to Launch a Career by BusinessWeek Magazine
DALLAS, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BusinessWeek magazine has once
again named AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) as one of the "Best Places to Launch a
Career," based on feedback from a wide cross section of career-conscious
individuals. AT&T has been included among the Best Places every year since the
list's inception in 2006.
The Best Places to Launch a Career list is based on three extensive
surveys: a poll of 40,000 college students inthe United States, of career
services directors at U.S. colleges and universities, and of the employers
those directors identify as the best for new graduates.
BusinessWeek surveyed 119 finalist companies based on pay, benefits,
retention efforts and training programs, and then it compared responses with
other employers in the same industry.
"We are committed to hiring the best and the brightest talent to work at
AT&T, and we strive to give all employees continued opportunities to grow and
develop their careers," said Bill Blase, senior executive vice president,
Human Resources for AT&T. "Students and recent college graduates bring a fresh
perspective to the company, and we're proud that this young generation views
AT&T as a desirable place to work."
AT&T's diverse 50-state workforce, which is 44 percent female and 39
percent people of color, plays a key role in making the company an employer of
choice. Women make up 41 percent of the company's managers; 28 percent of AT&T
managers are people of color.
AT&T has significantly increased career opportunities for women and people
of color through initiatives such as the Leadership Development Program.
Established in 1988, this flagship program is designed for high achievers with
outstanding leadership potential and focuses on building a strong and diverse
leadership bench across the enterprise through a rotational program. Each
year, nearly half of the participants are women and nearly half are people of
color.
AT&T offers several other talent development programs for employees,
including the company's Self-Development and Learning Resource Center,
continuing skills training and tuition reimbursement.
BusinessWeek's Best Places to Launch a Career list is included in the
Sept. 15, 2008, issue of the magazine, which hits newsstands today.
