Cyclebration Bike Festival Offers Family Fun

Folsom's first Cyclebration bike festival offers a variety of events for cycling enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. The three-day, family-friendly event kicks off Friday afternoon, Sept. 12 and concludes Sunday, Sept. 14.

In addition to competitions and races, a free lakefront expo at Negro Bar State Park offers live music by Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers, food, games, numerous bike-related and outdoor lifestyle vendors and kayak rentals. The expo, open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, is also a great site to watch the start and finish of several races.

Families may join the Treasure Hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Teams will receive a map and list of clues leading to a variety of points along Lake Natoma and through Historic Folsom. Participants who complete the circuit and solve the clues will end their cycling adventure with some well deserved treasure.

The Lake Natoma Cruiser Ride is another option for less competitive Cyclebration participants. This event is open to all those wanting an easy ride around Lake Natoma. Helmets are required for those under 18 years. The Cruiser Ride runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Residents and visitors should be prepared for a few road closures related to the Two Bridges Circuit Race on Sunday between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The 1.6 mile course runs through the Historic District and across Lake Natoma Crossing and Rainbow Bridge. Rainbow Bridge will be closed at the intersection of Sutter and Riley streets and at Greenback and Folsom-Auburn Road. The northbound lanes of Lake Natoma Crossing will be closed. Southbound lanes will be open with shared access for northbound and southbound traffic. Public viewing of the fast-paced Two Bridges Circuit Race will be available from both sides of the Rainbow Bridge and the entire length of Lake Natoma Crossing.
