MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DTN/Meteorlogix, the leading business information services company focused on agricultural, energy and weather business markets, was ranked first in a report compiled by ForecastWatch.com measuring probability of precipitation (POP) forecasts. The study used the Brier Score, which ranks both accuracy and resolution, to compare the four major weather service providers' one-day-out POP forecasts. DTN/Meteorlogix received the top score from July 2007 to June 2008 by forecasting with 40 percent greater accuracy than forecasts associated with the National Weather Service (NWS).

ForecastWatch.com evaluated POP forecasts for 800 locations withinthe United States each day, comparing them to weather measured by the Automated Surface Observing System and Automated Weather Observing System network maintained by the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration. The report featured comparisons of both the year-long Brier Scores and scores for the winter months of December through February. DTN/Meteorlogix placed higher than its competitors in both studies.

"For the second straight year, results have shown that the weather information DTN provides is second-to-none," said Robert Gordon, chief executive officer, DTN. "We consider this a true testament to the hard work and innovative thinking of our staff of weather experts."
