LG Electronics Praised for Role in Republican National Convention
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- As the Republican National
Convention wraps up here today, convention officials praised LG Electronics
for its key role in bringing gavel-to-gavel high-definition images to 45,000
delegates, alternates, volunteers, media and guests in attendance this week.
LG Electronics was singled out for its major contributions to the
convention's Hurricane Information Center at the Xcel Energy Center, site of
the 2008 convention. LG flat screens were used exclusively in the center where
convention delegates tracked the storm, monitored its aftermath and
communicated with displaced coastal residents. These LG screens provided a
backdrop for national media coverage from the convention.
OFFICIAL HDTV PROVIDER
Maria Cino, president and CEO of the Republican National Convention
Committee, thanked LG for mobilizing over the Labor Day weekend to assist for
the hurricane center as Hurricane Gustav approached the Gulf Coast. "In
addition to being Official HDTV Provider, LG really delivered when we needed
them," she said. "LG's technology enhanced the overall experience of our
convention and we appreciate the company's strong role in the convention."
LG Electronics USA was chosen as the "Official HDTV Provider" of the 2008
Republican National Convention. LG provided about 250 LCD HDTVs, ranging from
19-inch sets used in delegate kiosks, to 32- and 37-inch models in the VIP
lounges to 47- and 52-inch HDTVs in high-visibility areas throughout the
convention.
Among the prominent locations for LG screens -- in addition to the
Hurricane Information Center -- are the Media Center, Senate and House "cloak
rooms" and Governors' Association lounge. LG's presence here took on even more
importance due to its crucial role in the Hurricane Information Center,
according to company officials.
TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP IN DENVER, TOO
LG also played an important role in last week's 2008 Democratic National
Convention (DNC). At the Aug. 25-28 convention inDenver, LG's technology
leadership was evident -- from the 50-inch plasma screens in the DNC Media
Pavilion to LCD multivision displays inDenver's Pepsi Center, where the
convention was held. LG screens helped bring the action to the tens of
thousands of delegates, government officials, press and guests in attendance.
InDenver, LG Electronics USA loaned the plasma screens to the DNC Host
Committee for the media lounge, while LGE's sister company, LG Display, was
"Official Multivision Display Provider" for the Democratic National
Convention. LG Display provided 100-inch high-definition LCD multivision
displays placed in high-traffic Pepsi Center locations to help ensure
delegates remained abreast of the activities taking place in the convention
hall.
PUBLIC POLICY PLATFORM
During both conventions, LG Electronics co-sponsored policy luncheons,
attended industry events and participated in discussions on key issues ranging
from electronics recycling to the nation's transition to digital television.
These activities complemented the company's flat screen installations, further
positioning LG as a technology and policy leader inthe United States.
