TSA Names John Della Jacono Federal Security Director for Kansas City

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named John Della Jacono as the federal security director for Kansas City International Airport, effective Sept. 1, 2008.

Della Jacono joined TSA in January 2005 as deputy federal security director for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and later assumed duties as the acting federal security director in 2007. He was detailed to Kansas City in April 2008 as acting federal security director.

"John came to TSA after a long and distinguished military career, where he demonstrated exemplary command, leadership and staff skills in the United States Army and Military Police Corps," said Mo McGowan, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations. "That career prepared him well for overseeing the TSA workforce and security operations as the deputy federal security director at Seattle, and we are very pleased that he has now accepted the position as the federal security director at Kansas City."

Della Jacono served in a variety of command and staff assignments during a 30-year career with the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of colonel. He commanded from the company to brigade levels, was the deputy director for Security Matters for the U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany; provost marshal, Third United States Army; and chief of staff for the Third Army/Army Forces Central Command/Coalition Force Land Component Command at Fort McPherson, Ga./Kuwait. He deployed and served in a variety of assignments during Operation Just Cause (Panama); Operation Desert Shield/Storm (Liberation of Kuwait); Operation Joint Endeavor (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Della Jacono is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. In 1984, Col. Della Jacono graduated from St. John's University, New York, and received a aster of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Army War College.

In addition to overseeing security at Kansas City, he will serve as federal security director for Columbia Regional Airport, Springfield-Branson National Airport, Forney Army Airfield, and Joplin Regional Airport, all in issouri.
