Native New Yorker's Inaugural Chicken Wing Eating Contest Finale Kicks Off September 6
GILBERT, Ariz., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Native New Yorker sports-themed
family restaurant franchise announced the finals of its first annual wing
eating contest, the 'Battle of The Bone' inaugural amateur Arizona Wing Eating
Contest will be on September 6, 2008 at the restaurant'sTempe location, at
Dorsey and Broadway. The event benefits the W. Steven Martin foundation for
underprivileged children. The award-winning restaurant chain is renowned for
its hot Buffalo-style chicken wings and otherNew York-inspired sports grill
fare has over 24 locations throughoutArizona.
Sponsoring partners for the event are Bud Light and Fan 1060 AM with Roc
and Manuch, and Right Honda ofScottsdale that has donated a two-year lease of
a 2008 Honda Element as the contest's grand prize. Fan AM 1060 will be
broadcasting live from the event beginning at 6 PM and Channel 12's Chris
Holden will be on hand to perform the National Anthem.
Native New Yorker kicked off their Buffalo Chicken Wing Eating Contest in
March 2008, where every Wednesday evening one of theArizona locations held
local wing eating contests, collecting a list of finalists who competed for a
spot in the contest's finale on September 6, 2008 inTempe. Contestants will
have 10 minutes and 60 seconds, in honor of local radio station sponsor
1060 AM, to eat as many chicken wings as possible. The contest is only open
to amateurs.
"We set out to create a way to benefit the local community children.
Owing to its popularity and customer response to the program, we have decided
to make it an annual event," said Jami Lee, CEO of Native New Yorker.
The W. Steven Martin foundation raises money for Police Officer Memorials
that are held across the country and runs a holiday toy drive each December.
During the year, the foundation works with law enforcement to make gifts
available to children in emergency situations where the child is a victim of
crime or who witness parents being arrested. During the holiday season police
officers can 'shop' at the organization's warehouse of donated toys for
underprivileged children, selecting toys for the kids on their 'beat' that are
less fortunate.
