Minera Petaquilla, S.A. Selects CH2M HILL as Owner's Engineer for Panamanian Power Plant

CH2M HILL Will Perform Preliminary Engineering for a Coal-Fired Power Station Associated With Panama's Petaquilla Copper Project

CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, has been retained by Minera Petaquilla, S.A. (MPSA) to perform preliminary engineering for a coal-fired power station at Punta Rincon, Colon Province, Republic of Panama.

CH2M HILL will be responsible for preparing the engineer, procure, construct (EPC) technical documents necessary to solicit international bids for an EPC contractor to complete the power station. Working with Swiss Energy LLC., CH2M HILL will also assist in the development of the power plant design criteria.

"We see this as an exciting opportunity to expand our current Panamanian activities and bring to our client multinational sourcing to provide much needed new energy to the region," says Robert Smith, CH2M HILL project manager.

The engineering for the power station will complement the larger Petaquilla development being undertaken by MPSA to develop a large open-pit copper mine with processing and auxiliary facilities at its mining concession in Panama.
