Debevoise's Barbara Paul Robinson Named Lifetime Achiever by The American Lawyer
NEW YORK, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Debevoise & Plimpton LLP of counsel
Barbara Paul Robinson was recognized as a 2008 Lifetime Achiever by The
American Lawyer in its September 2008 issue. The magazine chose eight lawyers
for this honor, based on their work with clients, serving the greater good and
the length of both their public and private service. Robinson was the only
woman among the eight lawyers to be included this year. The honorees, as well
as the law firms selected for the magazine's 2008 "A-List" ranking, will be
honored at a gala dinner on October 29th inNew York City.
Robinson became Debevoise's first woman partner in 1976 and was
instrumental in helping to establish the firm's part-time program. The
magazine notes that Debevoise established one of the first flextime programs
for attorneys at bigNew York City firms. Robinson also became the first
woman president of the New York City Bar Association in 1994. During her
tenure as president, the Association published a study, "Glass Ceilings and
Open Doors," which examined the difficulties that largeNew York law firms had
in advancing women lawyers to their senior ranks and also worked to make the
profession more inclusive of all minorities. Robinson also oversaw the
construction and endowment of the Association's pro bono and public service
center.
"Our Lifetime Achievers are notable both for their level of performance at
the bar and for their records in public service. They influenced their times
as well as their clients, and they served the broader needs of their
communities as well as those of their firms. Barbara Robinson meets these high
standards and we're pleased to include her this year," said Aric Press, editor
in chief of The American Lawyer.
"This is a fitting honor for Barbara, considering the trails she has
blazed for women at Debevoise and in the entire legal profession," said Martin
Frederic Evans, Debevoise's presiding partner. "We congratulate her for this
prestigious award and thank her for her many contributions to our firm, in her
practice and in helping to make Debevoise a leading firm for the development
of accomplished women lawyers."
