Cox Communications Statement Regarding California Public Utilities Commission 9/02/2008 Report on 2007 San Diego Wildfires
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The conclusions of the CPUC staff
report on the Guejito fire are not supported by the evidence. As concluded in
the Cal Fire report, the evidence indicates that our line was fully intact
prior to the extremeSanta Ana winds, which caused SDG&E's lines and our lines
to come into contact.
Cox has cooperated fully with all agencies during this process; staff
statements in the report are inconsistent with the facts.
One thing that is not in question is that Cox fiber optic cables are not
electrical cables and do not carry electrical current to start a fire. We are
confident that after a full investigation, the Commission will agree that the
evidence does not support staff conclusions.
Our number one priority has always been, and will continue to be, the
safety of our customers, our employees and our community.
