U.S. Mayors Respond to Hurricane Gustav During Republican National Convention
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United States
Conference of Mayors President Miami Mayor Manny Diaz has scheduled an
EMERGENCY CONFERENCE CALL on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:30am Eastern Time with
the mayors of the nation for a report from the mayors in the Gulf Coast Region
that are impacted directly by Hurricane Gustav. Mayor Diaz is requesting the
mayors' assessment of their immediate needs at this time so that mayors around
the country can provide assistance.
The Conference of Mayors leadership will also hear a report from mayors
who are receiving citizens from the Gulf Region that were evacuated to cities
across the nation. At issue is whether federal and state authorities are
providing the assistance mayors and their cities need as they receive people.
Cities are the first responders and the mayors' first priority is
assisting those impacted by Hurricane Gustav.
