Kevin Johnson focus of Labor Council Labor Day protest
Sacramento Labor Council will be protested Monday at Labor Day event for endorsing 'anti-union' Kevin Johnson for Mayor
SACRAMENTO - For the first time in recent memory, the Sacramento Labor Council Picnic will be protested Labor Day Monday by pro-union community members who suggest that the labor body's decision to endorse Kevin Johnson for Mayor is "anti-union."
The Labor Day event starts Monday 11 a.m. at William Land Park, Village Green Area (Freeport Blvd. and Sutterville Rd).
Parents, teachers and other community members said they support workers and support unions, but do not support the decision to endorse Kevin Johnson for Mayor because his actions clearly show he does not support unions.
In a flyer produced by Volunteer Labor of Concerned Parents, Teachers and Community Members, entitled "Keep Sacramento a Union Friendly City," it is noted that Kevin Johnson's St. HOPE school does not employ any union teachers, and Johnson is accused of "single-handedly leading the charge... to destroy teacher unions (in Sacramento)."
