American Public University System's Child and Family Development Program Receives Certified Family Life Educator Preparation Designation from the National Council on Family Relations

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Child and Family Development undergraduate program at American Public University System (APUS) (http://www.apus.edu) has met the standards and criteria required to prepare graduates to apply for National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) status. This designation is the first given to an online Child and Family Development program.

The Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Development program is available at member institutions American Public University (http://www.apu.apus.edu) and American Military University (http://www.amuonline.com) and includes appropriate course work for each of the ten family life content areas required by the NCFR. APUS students graduating with a BA in Child and Family Development now qualify to complete an abbreviated application process for attaining full Family Life Educator certification, which will save them time and money.

"Given our mission to provide affordable and respected degrees for our students, APUS is proud to receive this designation," said Wallace E. Boston, Jr., President of APUS. "Our NCFR-approved curriculum enables graduates pursuing family life education and related careers to be highly effective in intervening with individuals and families on a national and international scale."

The NCFR recognizes a broad, comprehensive range of issues constituting family life education. It acknowledges the preventive focus of family life education and assures that approve programs have met or exceeded the high standards and criteria needed to provide quality family life education. Program approval recognizes the inclusion of relevant course work for each of ten family life content areas needed for Family Life Educator preparation.

The ten NCFR content areas include: Families and Individuals in Societal Context, Internal Dynamics of Families, Human Growth and Development, Human Sexuality, Interpersonal Relationships, Family Resource Manager, Parent Education, Family Law and Public Policy, Professional Ethics and Practice, and Family Life Education Methodology.

The National Council on Family Relations, a member funded, non-partisan educational and professional organization, is in its second half century of service to family professionals. In addition to its member based services and programs, NCFR publishes the Journal of Marriage and Family, and Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Studies, and other family research and education resources.
