HalloWeekends Returns to Cedar Point

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- With new scary attractions, live shows and children's activities, HalloWeekends at Cedar Point will be bigger and better than ever before.

In addition to an expanded entertainment package, theSandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort's 12th annual fall frightfest will also be extended to eight weekends, the longest haunting season in the event's history. Beginning Friday, Sept. 12, HalloWeekends will be held Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 2. It will be the first time in Cedar Point's 138-year history the park will be open in November.

Each year the park strives to improve the event, and these changes have not gone unnoticed. Recently, HalloWeekends was listed as one of the Top 10 amusement park events by Hauntworld Magazine, the haunt industry's leading trade magazine. It was also named as the "Best Seasonal Event" by readers of Theme Parks Magazine for the third consecutive year.

To put all of its guests in the proper mood, the look of the park will change from spotless midways and manicured flowerbeds to friendly and frightening with an infusion of tombstones, cobwebs, skeletons, pumpkins, bales of straw and hundreds of spiders, bats and other yet-to-be-identified creatures.

During HalloWeekends, guests of all ages will have a full day of fun. In addition to an unmatched collection of rides and roller coasters, HalloWeekends will have themed walk-through attractions, haunted houses, live entertainment and special attractions for young children.

This year's event will have a lengthy list of new additions that will include:

-- Two new themed walk-through attractions: Terror Island that is inhabited by pirates and mermaids; and CornStalkers, a cornfield guarded by mysterious scarecrows;

-- Club Blood, a vampire-filled haunted house;

    -- A completely new-look Magical House on Boo Hill funhouse and a Hay Bale
Maze for children;

    -- Two new live shows:  "The Graveyard Shift with the Goodtime Ghouls" and
"Nights of Darkness;" and

-- Two new dining options: The Mid-Evil Market and Alien Cafe.

Overall, HalloWeekends will have five nighttime themed walk-through attractions and three haunted houses. Each will have plenty of spooky monsters lurking in the dark and will be adorned with fog that ranges from thick to thin and wispy.

At the top of the list for family fun is the Monster Midway Invasion Celebration Parade that will return for its second season. With floats, including a new Ghostbusters entry, friendly monsters and marching bands, the colorful parade will be a hit with everyone in the family. The Monster Midway Invasion Celebration will be presented at 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting).

Other family favorites will include the transformation of Planet Snoopy, the park's new children's area, into Planet Spooky and the Peanuts Halloween Show and Kids' Costume Contest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Other entertainment options during HalloWeekends include a magic show, witches, gypsies, friendly monsters who dance along the midway and a variety of live shows presented throughout the park.

During HalloWeekends, Cedar Point will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Fridays (limited ride availability); noon to midnight on Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. On Sunday, Oct. 12, the park will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Excluding Sunday, Oct. 12, the themed walk-through attractions will be closed on Sundays.
