Gladstone Homes Inspires Local Teens at Residential Childcare Facility With Hands On Student Internship Program

This summer, Gladstone Homes partnered with Mooseheart Child City & School, a residential childcare facility located 38 miles west ofChicago, offering Inspire Me internships to two of its students. Davon Davy, 18 and Randy Martin, 17, were chosen by the Mooseheart faculty to participate in the internship program based on their academic achievement, behavior and demonstration of responsibility.

The Inspire Me internship provided these students with exposure to the many facets and phases of the home building process, including real-life scenarios and hands on experience withGladstone staff and other industry professionals. Davy and Martin, who were each given the title Vice President of Operations, were assigned the task of developing a new community -- from inception to completion, including the "purchase" of a piece of property, the development of a land plan including landscaping, park facilities, and improvements to the actual design of the home.

Gladstone's team of professionals and its trade partners took part in the internship program, lending their supervision and expertise in the fields of architecture, plumbing, trim carpentry, HVAC contracting, masonry, electrical, painting, lumber and cabinetry, and engineering. Additionally, the interns worked closely withGladstone's salespeople, advertising agency and construction superintendents, learning what it takes to prepare a home for market.

Thanks to the positive reaction to the program, as well as commitments from a majority of its participating partners,Gladstone will continue the Inspire Me internship program in summer 2009, when additional Mooseheart students will be selected to participate. Presently the program is open to only Mooseheart high school students. Both boys and girls are encouraged to apply.
