AT&T to Roast NASCAR Driver Jeff Burton in Celebration of his 500th Cup Series Start
ATLANTA, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To commemorate his 500th NASCAR
Cup Series start, AT&T Racing driver Jeff Burton will be honored at a roast on
Saturday, Aug. 30 at Auto Club Speedway. Burton will actually reach the
milestone on Sunday, Aug. 31, when the AT&T Racing team revs up to race in the
Pepsi 500 inFontana, Calif. ESPN broadcaster Allen Bestwick will serve as
the roastmaster, with team owner Richard Childress and fellow Richard
Childress Racing (RCR) drivers Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer as roasters,
along side ESPN Broadcaster and recently-retired Cup Series driver Dale
Jarrett.
"Jeff has been a true ambassador for the sport both on and off the track
for quite some time," said Tim McGhee, director of corporate sponsorships for
AT&T. "He quickly became a fan favorite when he joined the Cup Series circuit
and AT&T has been very fortunate to have him represent the brand. I know he
also has a great sense of humor so we'll have a good time poking a little fun
at him and some of the funnier moments of his great career."
"It's pretty hard to believe I'm coming up on my 500th start," said
Burton. "Professionally, there's nothing else I'd rather be doing. Competing
in NASCAR's top level series has been a lifelong dream and I'm fortunate that
I have been doing what I love for as long as I have."
"I'm thankful for the support AT&T has given me over the past few years
and I'm proud to sport their colors for this milestone. To be honest, I'm a
bit nervous of what kind of stories will be told during the roast but I can
take it. I might even add a few of my own stories."
Burton, currently holding fifth place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings,
began in the elite-level circuit on July 11, 1993, with his first race at New
Hampshire International Speedway. Now in his 16th season, he has amassed 20
victories and has finished in the top-10 in the Championship standings seven
times.
Reaching 500 career starts is a significant achievement on the circuit as
only six other active drivers have accomplished this feat, including Kyle
Petty (824), Ken Schrader (723), Mark Martin (715), Michael Waltrip (713),
Bobby Labonte (534) and Jeff Gordon (533).
