Response to "The Paranoia in Greece has Become Strong"
Letter of Editor
I am writing in response to Borce Georgevski's opinion piece titled "The Paranoia in Greece has become strong". Sadly, Borce's comment displays the typical thinking of a person that comes from the (FYR) Macedonia. Borce actually believes that the Northern region in Greece was renamed to Macedonia in 1988. Can he explain the countless western articles that refute his irredentist claims? Let's take one such example from Time magazine. This particular article was dated Monday, Jul. 23, 1945. Notice where it states:
"The Greek Governor General of Macedonia..."

The Time article also refutes Borce's claims of the events that occurred in the 1940s.
Here is what President Truman had to say about the events of the 1940s and about the Communist guerrilla forces across the Greek boarder:

Borce goes on to say that the Greek province of Macedonia is the only province with a separate flag. Truly a ridiculous statement. Greece has several regional and municipal flags. Take a look at the flag of Central Greece & Attica:

For all those not aware, when (FYR) Macedonia joined the UN in 1993 it did so under the name FYRoM. UN Resolution 817 stipulates that (FYR) Macedonia's name is an issue for negotiation.
Now Macedonia in ancient times was a Hellenic City State similar to Athens, Argos, etc. (For those that disagree then perhaps it would be best to visit a local library). In modern times, it is a region within the Hellenic State. Why is it appropriate that FYRoM claim the name Macedonia exclusively for themselves? I see no reason why FYRoM should object to Upper Macedonia or New Macedonia as a name.
