Should We Refer to The Persian Gulf as "the Arabian Gulf"?

"According to reports, Iranian hackers also hacked Arab-language websites over the name of the Persian Gulf, which some refer to as the "Arabian" Gulf. Behrouz Kamalian, who blogs on mathematics, was reported on the Iranian.ws website to have said on July 21 that his group had hacked about 100 Arab websites, including those hosted by government, academic institutions, and private enterprise in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Iraq.

The hackers managed to superimpose a map of the Persian Gulf, clearly marking it as such. Kamalian's blog site lists his address in Teheran." Quotation from The Cutting Edge News/Martin Barillas

Iran (Persia) is a proud country with a history stretching back to Biblical times. Iranians take great pride in their civilization, and are quick to take umbrage at any slight.

Some Iranian hackers have hacked Arab-language Web sites to change "Arabian Gulf" to the "Persian Gulf." It's important to remember that although Iranians are predominantly Muslim, they are Persians not Arabs.

There are some Americans who feel that we should refer to the "Persian Gulf" as the "Arabian Gulf" in order to tick off Iran.

Iran is always trying to isolate Israel, pointing out that they are infidel interlopers in the Middle East. Perhaps it would not be a bad idea for us to try to isolate Iran, by pointing out that they are Shiite Persians in a sea of Arab Sunni nations. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

But the best way to isolate Iran is by reminding the Arab countries that Iran's intervention in Lebanon, Iraq and other Arab countries is destabilizing the region. The greatest threat to peace and security in the Middle East is not bumbling America, but interventionist Iran.
