ATI Enterprises, Inc. to Award Veterans 16 Career Training Scholarships Valued at Up to $400,000
DALLAS, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of US veterans in the state of
Texas, ATI Enterprises, Inc.,Texas's premier group of career training centers
and the nation's onlyTexas based national group, today announced the new
Larry Gilbert/VFW Memorial Scholarship. In memory of Gilbert, who passed away
in June 2008, ATI will award up to 16 scholarships-two at each of the eight
current Texas ATI Enterprises campuses-to OIF and OEF veterans in
collaboration with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Texas Veterans
Leadership Program of the Texas Workforce Commission. Each scholarship will
provide a veteran with 12 months to 3 years of career training at ATI in a
variety of fields, including health care, computer repair, information
technology, automotive repair, graphic design, business administration, HVAC
and welding. Selected veterans may opt for the program of their choice in
which they meet entrance requirements for that specific program.

combining his great love for the Marines with his passion for education. We

In making the formal announcement of this ground-breaking program, Carli

Applications are available September 1 through October 31 at
www.ATI4Veterans.com and must be submitted no later than October 31. The
selection process will be conducted between November 1 and 15. Successful
candidates will be notified by November 25.
The late Larry L. Gilbert combined his love for the Marines with his love
of teaching others. He held numerous positions at ATI Enterprises over 30
years, including corporate coordinator of support services for ATI
Enterprises, Inc. Most importantly, he provided a kind ear to any student or
educator who needed someone to listen. His late wife and both of his sons were
teachers, as well. Gilbert shipped out with the 1st Marine Brigade in 1942 to
American Samoa, and subsequently participated in Guadalcanal, Bougainville,
Guam and Iwo Jima. He returned toGuam in 1994 to participate in the 50th
Anniversary of the liberation of the island. He was a life member of the 1st
Marine Division Association, the 3rd Marine Division Association and the
Veterans of Foreign Wars. In short, Gilbert was a Marine, an American, an
educator, a friend and a mentor extraordinaire.
