Skinner Announces Move to Marlborough, Mass.
BOSTON, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading
auction houses, today announced that it will move from its long-timeBolton,
Mass. gallery to a new facility located at 274 Cedar Hill Street in
Marlborough, Mass. This newly purchased site will host the auction house's
corporate offices, suburban auction gallery, and warehouse. Currently, Skinner
has galleries inBoston andBolton, Mass. and a leased warehouse in nearby
Hudson, Mass.
The new 69,000 square foot space, situated on a sprawling five acres, is
approximately three times the size of itsBolton building, and accommodates
parking for 200 cars. Located near the junction of Interstate 495 and the
Massachusetts Turnpike, the new location is some seven miles closer to
Skinner'sBoston gallery, thereby facilitating streamlined operations and
greater convenience for customers traveling between both gallery locations.
"This move was necessitated by explosive business growth," said Karen
Keane, partner and CEO of Skinner, Inc. "Skinner first occupied theBolton
space in 1971. A lot has changed since then. Skinner is now one of the largest
auction houses in the country and truly a world-class organization. Our
operations and facilities need to reflect that growth. With this strategic
move, we are addressing the space concerns of today, while preparing for
long-term future growth as well."
The new space will also accommodate more auction storage, eliminating the
need for Skinner's leased warehouse facility inHudson, Mass. "Having
appraisal and administrative staff and auction property under the same roof
will result in increased efficiency for our business," suggests Keane.
Stephen Fletcher, Skinner partner, executive vice president and Americana
department head noted, "We're extremely excited about the move to a new and
bigger space. With it, we hope to gain greater flexibility and storage -- both
of which translate into a real advantage in serving our clients. He added, "Of
course, moving fromBolton was a difficult decision. Skinner has long been a
part of theBolton community. For those of us that have worked here for years,
we've become real friends of the town, its residents and its businesses."
While theMarlborough facility will house administrative offices and
Discovery auctions, Skinner's specialty auctions will continue to be held in
Skinner'sBoston gallery.
"Boston continues to be our strategic focus, and our newMarlborough
location simply strengthens that commitment," says Keane. "Given the historic
importance of the property we offer at auction, we're proud to call such a
historic city asBoston home."
Built for the former Digital Equipment Corporation, theMarlborough
facility has been well maintained, but will require some reconfiguration.
Skinner's expects to move to its new facility inMarlborough in early 2009.
