Openstream(R) Announces Cue-me(TM) Multimodal Browser for Mobile Phones
SOMERSET, N.J., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at SpeechTEK 2008
conference inNew York, Openstream Inc., a leading player in the Multimodal
Technology and solutions market, announced launch of its multimodal browser
Cue-Me(TM) for Windows Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry phones. The company will
soon make this technology available on iPhone devices.
Users have long been waiting for the appropriate technology that would
make mobile interaction more convenient and intuitive. As mobile phones are
becoming more powerful, several usability studies clearly show that people do
not find the small keypad-mode of interaction convenient for accessing mobile
applications.
"For a person on the move, getting the information quickly without
cumbersome key-presses would be very important," says Raj Tumuluri, President
& CEO of Openstream Inc.
The pioneering work done at the WorldWideWeb Consortium
(http://www.w3c.org), of which Openstream is a contributing member, has led to
the development of a new paradigm of interaction for mobile users that
combines voice, touch and key-presses.
"Developers have been struggling for long not having a single platform and
model that can help them develop applications for a variety of mobile phones,"
says Gerald McCobb, Technical Director at Openstream.
Openstream's Cue-me multimodal browser is a major step in that direction,
that defines the next leap in mobile interaction. Built on open standards, the
browser makes multimodal mobile applications development easy for all the
popular phone platforms in the marketplace.
Launching the Cue-me mobile browser at the SpeechTEK 2008 conference in
New York, Dr. Deborah Dahl, Principal, Conversational Technologies and Chair
of W3C Multimodal Interaction Working Group, has said, "This move is just the
latest in the growing trend by Openstream and others to drive the speech and
voice application business forward from its proprietary, vertical roots into
the horizontal world of standards-based development and the contributions from
Openstream make it possible for more developers to take advantage of speech
and multimodality in their applications."
To support this, Openstream has for some time now already been shipping
the Smart Messaging Platform(TM) incorporating several W3C standards based
technologies.
